Tile Calculator

Calculate exactly how many tiles and boxes you need for your project.

How to Use the Tile Calculator

Measure the length and width of the room. Enter the dimensions of the tile you plan to use (most ceramic and porcelain tiles are sold in inches or centimeters). Set a waste factor — 10% is standard for square layouts, 15% for diagonal, 20% for complex patterns or large tiles. The tool will tell you exactly how many tiles to buy and how many boxes that translates to.

Why You Need Extra

You'll always cut some tiles to fit edges and corners. Some tiles will break during installation. And keeping a few spare tiles after the job is done makes future repairs easy if a tile cracks years later.

FAQ

What waste percentage should I use?

10% for straightforward square layouts, 15% for diagonal patterns, and 20% if you're using very large format tiles or have lots of cuts (e.g., around fixtures).

Should I round up tile count?

Yes — and you should always buy by the box, since tile dye lots vary between batches.

Does this account for grout lines?

Grout lines are typically thin enough that they don't change the tile count meaningfully. The waste factor covers any rounding error.

Imperial vs metric?

Use whichever your tile is sold in. The result is the same — just different units.

Is my data stored?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser.
